Protect Your Vision – For You and Your Family
By Fighting Blindness Canada
British Columbia, September 10, 2025 – As you prepare to get your kids ready for school, many of you are also enjoying the last few days of summer. The sun is shining bright, and there is still plenty of warm weather! But as you enjoy those sunny days, it’s important to keep eye safety in mind—for both you and the children in your life.
UV rays from the sun can damage vision and speed up the progression of existing eye conditions in people of all ages. The good news? A few simple steps can go a long way in protecting eye health.
Here are some quick tips to help children and adults enjoy sunny days safely:
- Wear sunglasses and a hat when you’re outside
- Choose sunglasses with UV protective lenses that block both UVA and UVB rays
- Never look directly at the sun—even with eye protection
- Build healthy habits like regular exercise and eating plenty of fruits and vegetables
- Book routine eye exams with an optometrist for both you and your children
