BC Doctors of Optometry

Symptoms & Causes
If you see colourful lights in your line of vision, they are called “Halos”. There are several reasons for them. At night, Halos noticed around lights are commonly seen by people recovering from recent laser vision correction, or by nearsighted (myopic) people who are not wearing their proper prescription glasses.

Possible Eye Diseases
It’s important to note that Halos with rainbows could mean a more serious eye problem. These could include: cataracts, swelling of the lens in the eye due to diabetes, a foreign body in the cornea, or possibly glaucoma. Book an appointment with your Doctor of Optometry if you experience any of these symptoms, including sudden blurred vision with eye pain. Most optometrists hold emergency appointments in their schedules and will be able to see you on the same day.
